A Report On E-C Translation Of Food Safety Management Systems(Excerpts)

The food sanitation and safety are closely related to people’s health and life safety.The saying “bread is the stall of life” has been prevalent from ancient time to date,while food-borne disease that would be caused by contaminated or toxic food and infection due to people’s diet is closely related to this saying.Food-borne disease has become one of the most highly concerned diseases in the national community with extensive pathogen and high management difficulty.Based on the coronavirus epidemic in 2020,the translation material which is closely related to public health events,is taken from a social and science book named Food Safety Management System with strong readability,obvious professionalism,and outstanding information objectivity.The translation practice was carried out to analyse part of translation cases in compliance with the linguistic adaption theory of social context,linguistic construction and dynamics according to the variation in English and Chinese in cultural background,grammar,express method,thinking habits and so on to tell how the theory of linguistic adaptation guides the translation of this social science text.The paper consists of five chapters,and the case analysis in Chapter Four is the core part of this paper.With the theory of linguistic adaptation,the translation obstacles were solved encountered in the social,physical and psychological world during the translation process,and summarized that the purpose of text comprehension could be achieved by adapting to the social background of the text,the emotional purpose of the original text,the reader’s cognition and spatial position;the problems encountered in the lexical,syntactic and semantic aspects of the language structure have been solved,and by adapting to Chinese common expressions in active and passive relation,logical relations as well as nouns and verbs,it made the expression of sentences clearer;the translation obstacles encountered in expression and thinking habits have been solved and by adapting to Chinese overall arrangement,it makes the sentence expression more idiomatic.This paper aims at making contribution to the translation of social science texts,and at the same time,disseminating knowledge of food safety management system as well as providing reference value for the Chinese catering industry.
