The separation of spoken and written language has existed in the long history of our country and has played an important role in inheriting social civilization. The ancient people have long been aware of this phenomenon, such as Confucius’ s ‘writing do not finish words’,which shows that there is a distance between spoken and written language. The modern Vernacular Movement was launched in a special historical period to realize the spread of New Culture, and then opened the discussion on the separation of spoken and written language. In the past, the discussion of the phenomenon of spoken and written language separation was based on the theory of the mature stage of written Chinese or from the perspective of language system, but from the perspective of articleology, the phenomenon in the Jinwen Shangshu was rarely discussed. In fact,as the earliest and credible collection of written articles in China,Jinwen Shangshu is in a state of mixed spoken and written language, and in terms of text characteristics,it not only contains a great number of spoken words, such as ‘Wu Hu’ and ‘Yu’,but also traces of historical officials writing, such as the narrative words of historical officials such as ‘Yueruo Jigu’,and the writing characteristics of ‘You Yue’omitting the previous content, which are all manifestations of the mixed words and texts of Jinwen Shangshu.Through the mixed phenomenon of spoken and written language,it can be found that in the process of recording words, there are signs of avoiding repetition and mutating their wording, paying attention to the integrity of the chapters and organizing the writing and arrangement, reflecting the writer’s conscious awareness and classification awareness of the stylistic form.It can be seen that the early separation of spoken and written language, although not yet fully mature,is already in the stage of potential occurrence. It was the objective material conditions of writing and dissemination in the ancient period,as well as the subjective factors of the historians themselves, that allowed the early separation of spoken and written language to occur, and thus laid the foundation for the increasing separation of languages and texts in later generations. In this paper,we will explore the traces of the separation of spoken and written language in the ancient period, and then analyze the reasons for the separation of spoken and written language in the early period and its impact on later generations, from the perspective of articleology, starting from the phenomenon of mixed spoken and written language as expressed in the text of the Jinwen Shangshu.
