A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of The Transaction Rules Of Chicago Mercantile Exchange (Excerpts) From The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence Theory

The Articles of Association are of great significance to the existence and operation of an organization.A deep understanding of the articles helps us to be familiar with the operation rules of the organization,so as to occupy a favorable position in international business activities through the flexible use of the rules.The source text selected for this practice report is the excerpt from the trading rules of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange,which has significant features,a large number of professional vocabularies,rigorous language style and regular text format.The Chicago Mercantile Exchange(CME)is one of the most representative commodity exchanges in the world.It was founded early and developed for a long time.After years of development and accumulation,it opened a new era of brand management and had a huge global influence,so its trading rules are also representative to some extent.According to the characteristics of the text,this translation practice adopts the translation method of machine translation and post-editing.With the development of science and technology,the accuracy of machine translation is getting higher and higher,especially for some specific text translation speed and quality even better than the ordinary translators.However,in some cases,manual post editing is required to better accommodate the final translation requirements.This is also the reason why this text is translated in this way.In the later editing process,functional equivalence theory is used as a guide,and case studies are carried out from vocabulary syntax and discourse aspects and according to the actual situation,translation strategies such as literal translation,domesticating translation and semantic translation are adopted.In this translation practice,it is found that machine translation is prone to mistranslation in complex sentences and polysemy.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,translators have edited and polished the translation produced by machine translation.Conclusion prove that functional equivalence theory plays an irreplaceable role in the post-translation editing of machine translation.
