Vocabulary learning is a continuous process throughout the acquisition of a second language,and the degree of vocabulary acquisition by Chinese learners directly affects their language output and communicative competence.Through the application of metacognitive strategies,learners can effectively control and regulate their own vocabulary learning process,develop the acquirer interest in vocabulary learning and keep good vocabulary learning habits.This study aimed at online vocabulary teaching for Chinese Beginning Learners,on the basis of which metacognitive strategy training was conducted.An experimental group and a control group was set up to teach online vocabulary to 64 learners for 12 weeks.Based on the analysis of the pre-and post-questionnaires and vocabulary tests,we explored the changes in the learners’ metacognitive awareness and use of metacognitive strategies when they were learning Chinese vocabulary,and conducted interviews with 8 learners.Finally,the collected data were collated and analysed to make targeted teaching suggestions.The results showed that Chinese beginning learners could more proficiently apply metacognitive strategies to Chinese vocabulary learning and achieved better performance in Chinese vocabulary tests after training metacognitive strategy application ability.There was a high correlation among planning strategies,evaluation strategies and vocabulary test scores,and a low correlation between monitoring strategies and test scores.In the process of online Chinese vocabulary learning,the frequency of Chinese beginning learners applying the three metacognitive strategies was from high to low: evaluation strategy,planning strategy and monitoring strategy.This paper summarized the teaching experiment experience and put forward teaching suggestions from three aspects.For vocabulary teaching: 1.Teachers should clarify the significance of metacognitive strategy training;2.Teachers should integrate metacognitive strategies into vocabulary teaching.For strategy training: 1.Teachers need to create a good environment for cultivating application ability of metacognitive strategy;2.Teachers need to constantly optimize the teaching content of metacognitive strategy training.For Online teaching: 1.When designing classroom activities,teachers should first consider the needs of learners’ sense of classroom experience and reinforce it;2.In the online teaching mode,teachers should pay close attention to the application level and degree of learners’ metacognitive strategies.
