A Study On The Narrative Strategy Of CCTV Female Theme Documentaries

Female theme documentaries,which focus on women as the protagonists,women’s living conditions and women’s self-expression,are an important medium for the presentation of China’s female landscape.As an official media product,CCTV female theme documentaries are like a double-sided mirror,which can reflect both the degree of awakening and reflection of women’s consciousness in the current society and the official level’s orientation towards the construction of women’s discourse in the new era.Over the years,CCTV has taken its unique grand perspective and selected representative female figures to record all the women in society in a small way into the documentary camera.This is an affirmation of their active participation in social life and building society,and an important step in incorporating women’s consciousness into the social picture.Although documentaries take real life as the basic content and focus on the presentation of objective facts,as a carrier of cultural communication,its value tendency and ideology inevitably penetrate into the works.This paper analyzes the narrative strategies in CCTV female theme documentaries from the perspective of narratology research,the new feminist narrative and documentary narrative,and relates its narrative construction to the relevant social context,so as to explore how the mainstream discourse represented by CCTV documentary production constructs the image of Chinese women and conveys the thoughts and ideas of Chinese women to the public,and how the creators of CCTV documentaries draw a picture of women’s life in China.This paper first summarizes and compares CCTV female theme documentaries from different historical periods,summarizes the presentation of women’s images and expression of women’s discourse in CCTV female theme documentaries from different periods,and analyzes the creative motives behind them.The next part analyzes the narrative strategy of CCTV female theme documentaries in detail,starting from the storytelling and discourse elements in women’s documentary texts,studying the storytelling narrative presentation in CCTV female theme documentaries through a close reading of the texts,analyzing how the documentary narrative is realized through the selection and arrangement of event materials,exploring how the sound and picture elements in them form the narrative discourse in the documentaries,and analyzing the narrative strategy to form the narrative discourse in CCTV female theme documentaries.This paper analyze the narrative strategies in CCTV female theme documentaries and explore the characteristics of their narrative.In recent years,CCTV has combined the characteristics of its channel and the trend of social environment,focusing its camera on ordinary women in life,paying practical attention to the survival situation of ordinary women in today’s real life,and presenting their daily lives with poetic expressions.In terms of narrative construction,CCTV documentaries focus on building the connection between small people and the big environment,linking individual fate with the social environment,building a portrait of groups in society from individuals,and placing them in the mainstream discourse to discuss,thus enhancing the social value of documentaries and the groups of women presented in documentaries.CCTV documentaries are undoubtedly full of positive energy in the presentation of women’s social roles and play a positive role in guiding the social climate,but there are also certain limitations,such as the ineffective use of narrative symbols,the tendency to homogenize the image construction of similar female groups,and the lack of deep concern for women’s real survival dilemmas.To optimize the limitations in the narrative of CCTV female theme documentaries,mainstream media platforms can refer to the creation model of documentaries on online video platforms and the production model of independent documentaries,encourage creators to conduct personal stylistic exploration,return to the creation of documentaries with micro-perspectives,and break the creation of grand perspectives formed by creators in the mainstream media cultivation environment in the past TV feature film era.The creators of mainstream media can also build a more intimate emotional link with the female protagonists in the documentary,and encourage them to tell their stories in a relatively private and relaxed communication space.As a result,the creators can break the single objective perspective narrative inherent in traditional documentary creation and explore more diverse narrative perspectives,interpret and express women’s consciousness from a more in-depth and delicate perspective,and realize the expression and construction of women’s discourse.
