At present,with the rapid development of science and technology,modern people are facing increasing material and mental pressure,and these pressures will undoubtedly have a very adverse impact on people’s mental health.From the perspective of China’s mental health research,compared with foreign countries,the overall level of mental health education in China needs to be improved,and studying the mental health situation in European and American countries and drawing on useful experience is not only very necessary but also beneficial to the development of China’s national mental health.This translation practice report is based on the translation practice of excerpts in Susan Cain’s book Bittersweet.The original text is a popular science book,in which the author tells the story that how sadness and desire make our life complete,providing readers with a lot of power to recognize the significance and essence of life,so as to face the sufferings of life with smiles.And the purpose of the translator’s selecting the text is bringing some enlightenment to Chinese readers through her own translation practice.In this report,the translator chose Newmark’s translation theory as the report’s guidance,analyzing the source text At the lexical level,syntactical level and textual level.On the one hand,in order to faithfully and accurately reproduce the ideological content and style of the original work,the translator selected Newmark’s semantic translation theory for guidance,and conducted translation work by analyzing the selection of words and sentences.On the other hand,the translator chose communicative translation theory to ensure the popularity and fluency of the translation work,and adopted a series of translation methods and techniques under its guidance,such as inversion,combination and addition.
