| The material for this report is taken from You Have More Influence Than You Think,a psychology book published in September 2021 by Vanessa Bohns,a professor of social psychology and organizational behavior at Cornell University.The book contains numerous psychological experiments and case studies to show that readers need to be aware of their own influence and recognize their responsibilities in influencing others.This report selects Chapters 1 and 2 of You Have More Influence Than You Think for translation.There are a large number of adjectives in the source text,and the translation of these adjectives will affect the meaning of the entire sentence.Improper translation will result in inadequate sentence meaning,which will cause some challenges for readers to understand.This report is guided by Newmark’s communicative translation theory,and the key to the theory is to accurately convey the information of the source text,so the translator can make appropriate adjustments for the purpose of communication.The translator analyzed the translation of adjectives in the source text from the perspectives of single-word adjectives and compound adjectives,and summarized translation methods such as adoption of four-character structure,adjustment of semantics,conversion,adoption of phrases or short sentences,omission of vehicle and adoption of endocentric phrases.Through writing the report,the translator became more familiar with the translation process and summarized the translation methods of adjectives in different situations.At the same time,the translator learned about knowledge of psychology,especially the knowledge related to the influence and value of people’s own existence.This report also provides some ideas and references for the translation of related types of texts and adjectives. |
