| This report is an E-C translation project of MLB news selected from ESPN official website.With the prevalence of online news media,MLB has been gradually recognized and accepted in China.ESPN,a global cable and satellite sports television channel,is a major way for Chinese sports fans to get the latest foreign sports news.During the translation process,the translator found that the language style of news text in this project was concise and terse.It was hard for the translator to convey the accurate lexical meaning and maintain the language features of those compound adjectives in this translation project.Given the above-mentioned features,the translator considered the Compound Adjectives as the main difficulty in this project:(1)Non-Figurative Compound Adjectives;(2)Figurative Compound Adjectives.From the perspective of Eugene A.Nida’s Functional Equivalence,the translator finds that the lexical equivalence and sentence equivalence are helpful in solving the above difficulties.Therefore the translator may reproduce the closest natural equivalent of the source language message,and improve the response of the receptor.The translator suggests following translation methods:(1)Meaning Extension and Division to translate Non-Figurative Compound Adjectives;(2)Omission of Metaphor Vehicle to translate Figurative Compound Adjectives.The translation methods presented in this translation report not only improve translator’s translation skills,but also provide references for such translation practice in the future. |
