It is one of the ways of cultural research to use artworks to prove the development and change of history and culture.This paper mainly discusses the artistic style of the typical Pala period stone carvings unearthed in the Gyal Temple of Linzhou.The stone statues of Gyal have a clear style and typical shape,which have a special value and significance in the history of Tibetan art.Especially,the Standing Maitreya statue and the Prajna statue are the "living fossils" of Pala sculpture in Weizang,India,which are interlocked with the history of the later period of Buddhism starting from the 9th century,as well as the history of the Buddha’s passing into Tibet.The important position of the founder of the monastery,Shang Nachang Dojiewangqiu,in the history of Tibetan Buddhism,and the continuation of the Gyal Monastery are all narrated in this paper.In four chapters,the author will first start with the history of Gyal Temple and its founder,and then analyze its artistic style from the perspective of imagology from the characteristics,images,and analyze each remaining stone statue one by one,and then summarize the artistic style of Gyal remaining stone statue.It focuses on the detailed explanation of Maitreya statue and Prajna statue from the overall layout design to the identity of Weizang Bodhisattva,compares the artistic characteristics of Gyal statue and the artistic characteristics of Pala statue in Weizang,discusses the common points of Pala statue to Gyal statue,and finally summarizes the artistic and cultural value of Gyal statue and its extension thinking.
