The Routledge Companion to Literature and Economics, the source text of the translation,is a collection of papers concerning the scope and methods of studying literary works through employing economic concepts. The translation of such a work fits in the cutting-edge academic trend that encourages interdisciplinary studies.Based on an analysis of the content and the language of the source text, the translator gives top priority to solve the problems concerning the adaptation while conducting the E-C translation. This report is about the E-C translation practice of The Routledge Companion to Literature and Economics, focusing on the difficulties and problems concerning adaptation. The translation per se and the analysis of the problems encountered in the process of the translation are conducted under the guidance of the adaptation theory proposed by Jef Verschueren.Translation skills employed to achieve successful contextual, structural and dynamic adaptations are examined, supported with specific translation cases,to demonstrate the necessity of adapting to the expectations of the target reader while conducting the E-C translation. The analysis of the contextual adaptation covers that of the communicative context and the linguistic context. As far as the structural adaptation is concerned, the report analyses the translation strategies at three levels, the lexical level, syntactic level and propositional level. The analysis of the dynamic adaptations focuses on the adaptations on the temporal and spacial dimensions. The findings concerning how to effectively adapt to the intrinsic requirements of the target language in the process of the E-C translation might be referred to for the translation of the same type of the text in the future.
