As an important part of national security, border security needs to be studied as an issue at a time when physical borderland issues are coming to the fore and the concept of borders is evolving. This is why the borderland security is studied and researched. In this translation practice, chapter 6 and 7 of the book The Study of China’s Borderland Security(Vol.1)by Professor Xu Lili are selected as translation materials. The book discusses borderland security and borderland defense methods from the theory of borderland security, defending borderland with culture, borderland governance, and borderland ethnic issues. This paper analyses and summaries the author’ s translation method in the process of English translation based on the Adaptation Theory founded by Verschueren, and further confirms the theory’s guiding effect on the translation process.According to Adaptation Theory, the use of language is a process in which speakers make linguistic choices, whether consciously or unconsciously.Translation,as a cultural exchange activity, can also be seen as a dynamic process in which the translator makes linguistic choices and adapt the context. In the process of translation, accuracy, objectivity and readability must be ensured. While accurately reproducing the meaning of the source text,it must also be adapted to the expression habits of the target language,so as to better serve the target reader. The translation difficulties of this text are mainly at two levels: at the level of vocabulary, the translation of professional geographical terms, ancient official positions, quotations from famous ancient Chinese philosophers and other proper nouns with a large number of cultural connotations, and at the level of sentences, the understanding and expression of some long and difficult sentences. The writer has found that the translation process of this text mainly reflects contextual correlates adaptation and structural objects adaptation. Therefore, the translator chooses these two dimensions to analyse the translation of informative text and makes corresponding language choices for the translation according to different adaptation situations.
