| This is a translation practice report on Chapter Two and Chapter Three of Designing the Mind: The Principles of Psychitecture,written by Ryan A Bush.The second chapter of the book focuses on the different kinds of cognitive biases,and further explains how we can eliminate and reshape these biases by redesigning the way we think.The third chapter,on the other hand,focuses on the values and methods to achieve real introspection.The source text provides the readers with enlightenment and as well a new perspective for designing the minds in the field of developmental psychology.Through rewiring cognitive biases,changing ingrained habits,and transforming emotional reactions,the source text discusses the art of restructuring in the minds.It is instructive for target readers to make full use of such approaches of psychitecture to help expand thinking.As an informative text,the original text has distinct language features and complex sentence patterns,especially the frequent use of abstract nouns and various types of complex and compound sentences,which brings challenges to the translator.In order to deal with the difficulties in the translation process at the level of word,sentence and discourse,the translator takes Verschueren’s Adaptation Theory as the theoretical guidance.Starting from the two dimensions of structural adaptation and contextual adaptation,the translator adopts translation techniques such as shift,division and amplification respectively to adapt to the linguistic structure and context of the target language and realize the main function of informative text,which means to convey information.Through this translation practice,in theory,the translator realizes the importance and necessity of Adaptation Theory for informative text,and enrich his own understanding of the theory.In practice,the translator improves the understanding and reading ability of the source language,and advances the expression ability of the target language as well. |
