| This report is based on the Chinese-English translation project of Introduction to the Tianfu International Convention Center.This translation project is designed to publicize the functions and architectural features of the Tianfu International Convention Center to foreign clients and consular officers,which plays an important role in promoting cooperation and exchanges.Therefore,this report is of practical significance to analyze the publicity-oriented translation project and discuss effective translation methods.The source text introduces the Tianfu International Convention Center from three aspects: overview,design characteristics,and significant functions.Describing the Chinese characteristics and Sichuan elements contained in the venue,the source text is a publicity text about architectural introduction,which focuses on information transmission and the publicity of Sichuan culture.The translator analyzes the source text from the lexical,syntactic,and textual perspectives,and summarizes the following features.At the lexical level,the source text adopts many architectural terms,cultureloaded words,high-sounding words,and four-character words.At the syntactic level,the source text contains many run-on sentences,parallel structures,and sentences with rhetorical devices,such as metaphor and personification,leading to a vivid language style.At the textual level,the source text presents a clear framework through the frequent usage of subheads,while the logical cohesion between sentences is implicit.Based on the source text features and translation purpose,this translation report takes Skopos theory as the theoretical basis.It analyzes the typical cases of the translation project under the framework of the three rules.Under the guidance of the skopos rule,omission and understatement are applied to translate high-sounding words,so as to make the target text close to the thinking habits of the target readers.In order to achieve the translation purpose of information transmission and highlight the cultural connotation,annotation is adopted to translate culture-loaded words.Paraphrasing is adopted to appropriately convey the meaning of four-character words.Under the guidance of the coherence rule,liberal translation is adopted to translate rhetorical devices,so as to reflect the implied meaning of the source text.Reconstruction is applied to translate run-on sentences to achieve logical coherence in the target text.The implicit logical cohesion is manifested in the target text by means of addition.Under the guidance of the fidelity rule,literal translation is adopted to accurately convey the meaning of architectural terms.Through the conversion of word classes,the target text can represent both the semantic meaning and structural features of the parallel structures in the source text.The application of Skopos theory could adequately solve the translation problems in this translation project,so that the target text can clearly and appropriately convey the source text information and enhance publicity effectiveness.It is hoped that the analysis and summary of this report can provide a reference for the translation of similar texts. |
