A Report On The Machine Translation Post-Editing Of Industry Research Report

As China’s antivirus protective equipment industry continues to go global,the Chinese-English translation of related industry report plays a major role in helping overseas companies understand product trends,as well as propelling China’s industry into international markets.This translation practice report is based on the project “Research Report on Current Situation Survey and Industrial Operation Tendency of China’s Antivirus Protective Equipment(2022-2027)” completed by the author,which is an informative text with standardized language,fixed sentence patterns and a strong translation corpus.Moreover,the source text is long while the time for translation is limited,hence machine translation post-editing can be used to complete the translation efficiently.This report introduces the background of the translation project,the reasons for post-editing,and the implementation process of the project.The report focuses on a detailed analysis of coherence errors in machine translation and post-editing strategies for achieving coherence at grammar,semantics and pragmatics.To achieve grammatical coherence,three grammatical connectors,namely,reference,ellipsis,and conjunction,are employed.For semantic coherence,how to choose semantically consistent vocabulary through the use of repetition and collocation is analyzed.As for pragmatic coherence,the gaps of cultural default are filled through explanation or literal translation.Besides,tactics such as sequencing,subject-passive transformation,etc.are used to make the language structure of the translation more in line with that of the target language.It has been proved that the above tactics can effectively enhance textual coherence,and the information of the source text can be transmitted accurately and completely.The author hopes that this report can provide some references for the Chinese-English translation and post-editing of similar texts.
