The teaching of idioms plays an important role in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.The current teaching of idioms is dominated by language modes,the teaching process is not systematic,and the actual teaching effect needs to be improved.The multi-modal theory has been continuously developed and gradually applied in the field of language teaching,but there are relatively few studies on the application of multi-modal theory to idiom teaching.At the same time,Chinese learners have great interest and demand for idiom learning.Therefore,applying multi-modal theory to idiom teaching practice plays an important role in the exploration of improving the efficiency of idiom teaching.Guided by the theory of multi-modal discourse analysis and systemic functional linguistics,this paper firstly analyzes the feasibility of combining multi-modal teaching mode and idiom teaching according to the teaching background and teaching status;then,guided by the multi-modal foreign language teaching framework.This paper builds a multi-modal idiom teaching framework,designs the idiom teaching under the multi-modal teaching mode,and proposes to apply it to teaching practice in the form of "idiom small class".Afterwards,through longitudinal comparison,other teachers’ evaluation,self-evaluation and other methods to reflect and analyze the teaching effect,and finally put forward targeted teaching suggestions.From a new research perspective,this paper applies the multi-modal theory to idiom teaching,in order to explore ways and methods to improve the efficiency of idiom teaching.The study found that idiom teaching under the multi-modal teaching mode have the advantages of meeting the needs of learners,making idiom teaching systematic,creating immersive classrooms,and broadening learners’ cultural horizons.On the basis of summarizing and reflecting,it puts forward some suggestions such as attaching importance to the systematic teaching of idioms,coordinating modal collocation,attaching importance to the cooperation between multi-modal teaching mode and traditional teaching mode,and expanding various teaching methods and teaching activities.The application of multi-modal teaching mode in idiom teaching practice is feasible and practical,and the teaching effect is great.I hope that the research and exploration in this paper can provide some reference for multi-modal teaching mode and idiom teaching.
