Lu Xun was the pioneer of the Enlightenment in the 20 th century. Both of his enlightenment attempts hope to "awaken the public" through the efforts of a few elite intellectuals and change the status quo of Chinese society. However, the failure of his two enlightenment attempts made Lu Xun feel depressed and even desperate,so he began to make reflections on the Enlightenment.Deeply influenced by Lu Xun,Sha Ting consciously continued Lu Xun’s path from the beginning of his writing to start thinking about the Enlightenment. However,Sha Ting’s inheritance of "Lu Xun Issue" is not just a simple copy, but further doubts and advances with the change of time and space.Based on his own experience, the unique tradition and local characteristics of the rural society in northwest Sichuan and the primitive instinct of people,he shifted his perspective and focus to the underclass.Sha Ting made a breakthrough in the structure and style of the Enlightenment employed by Lu Xun and other elites of the May Fourth Movement. He explored the possibility that people could enlighten themselves rationally from instinct resistance. He then showed another form of enlightenment adapted to the remote hinterland,"Sichuan form",with the real social life of villages and towns in northwest Sichuan province.Sha Ting thus provided a new perspective from the hinterland for modern enlightenment.Based on life experience and novel text contents of Sha Ting, this paper clarifies Sha Ting’s inheritance, advancement and breakthrough on Lu Xun’s enlightenment issue through depth analysis by means of close reading. It explores "Sichuan form" of modern enlightenment reflected in Sha Ting’s novels, and brings the extended reflection on Lu Xun’s enlightenment in Sha Ting’s novels into the modern literary context. This paper consists of the following four parts:The first is the introduction. It first clarifies the research significance of the subject and puts forward the main objectives of this research. It then summarizes and analyzes the research status, and finally describes the research contents and methods of this paper.Chapter 1 is Sha Ting’s inheritance of "Lu Xun Issue".Firstly,it briefly states the main contents of "Lu Xun Issue",and then elaborates the inheritance of "Lu Xun Issue" based on Sha Ting’s early experience of leaving and his fiction creation, which mainly includes the discovery of the survival dilemma of intellectuals, the inheritance of the critical vision focusing on the underclass, and the discovery of the distance between the enlighteners and those to be enlightened.Chapter 2 is the Sha Ting’s advancement of "Lu Xun Issue".In combination with his life experience of "leaving" and "returning",it discusses Sha Ting’s different understandings with the change of space. It then explores how Sha Ting advanced Lu Xun’s enlightenment issue through his reflection on the enlightenment dilemma from the perspective of common people in Sichuan.Chapter 3 is the exploration of solution to the Enlightenment in "Sichuan form".With the space shift,Sha Ting shifted his focus to the rural population in the inland of Sichuan from a new perspective, and discovered the special qualities of the villagers in the northwest of Sichuan from two aspects of tradition and humanity. He showed another form of enlightenment adapted to the remote hinterland--"Sichuan form" with the real social life of villages and towns in the northwest of Sichuan, hence providing a new perspective of the hinterland for the modern enlightenment.
