Zhongwei is located in the midwest of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, contains Langyin Mandarin and Zhongyuan Mandarin. In this paper,15 towns in Zhongwei City are selected for a comprehensive and in-depth investigation, and it presents the phonological features of Zhongwei dialect, draws the phonetic feature map of Zhongwei dialect and explains the corresponding phonetic features. And the phenomena of vowel and tone simplification are analyzed. This paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction, which mainly introduces the history and dialect of Zhongwei and the significance of this study. The second chapter is the general appearance of dialect pronunciation in Zhongwei, mainly describes the phonology and phonological characteristics of five representative dialect towns in Zhongwei. The geographical distribution of Zhongwei dialect shows the transition from Lanyin Mandarin to Zhongyuan Mandarin on the whole. The third chapter is a study on the geographical distribution of dialect pronunciation in Zhongwei, mainly introducing the geographical distribution characteristics of initial, final and tone in Zhongwei dialect. In terms of initials, the pronunciation is in opposition between Zhuang initial and Zhang initial in the south of Zhongwei, the initials of Yi and Ying are pronounced “?” in the north of Zhongwei and the initials of Yi and Ying are pronounced “n” and “?” in the south of Zhongwei, the initials of Ni and Lai are not confused in the north of Zhongwei and Ni initial is pronounced Lai initial in the south of Zhongwei. In terms of finals, the finals of Xian and Shan merge with the final of Xie in the north of Zhongwei, the finals of Shen and Zhen merge with the final of Zeng,Geng and Tong in the south of Zhongwei, the rhyme tail of the third final merge into Guo final. In the terms of tones, the fourth tone merges into the third tone in the north of Zhongwei, the fourth tone merges into the first tone in the south of Zhongwei, and the first tone of voiced sound merges into the second tone in the north of Zhongwei, and the first tone of voiced sound merges into the fourth tone in the south of Zhongwei. The fourth chapter is an experimental phonetics study of the phonetic simplification of Zhongwei dialect, mainly analyzing the phenomena of vowel simplification and tone simplification. In terms of the simplification of finals, the finals of Xian and Shan fall off,and the main vowel changes further,so the finals of Xian and Shan merge with the final of Xie.And under the influence of the main vowel, the final becomes nasalized, the finals of Shen and Zhen merge with the final of Zeng,Geng and Tong.In terms of tones simplification,Zhongwei dialect is simplified into two-tone dialect or three-tone dialect, which is influenced by internal factors and external factors, and is formed by the combination of tones under the condition of similar tone value or the same tone type. The fifth chapter is a comparative study of internal dialects in Zhongwei, mainly introducing the contrast of dialects on the north and south sides of the Yellow River in Zhongwei, and the contrast between Lanyin Mandarin and Zhongyuan Mandarin in Zhongwei. The last part is the conclusion, summarizing the geographical distribution characteristics and phonological simplification of Zhongwei dialect, and summarizing its evolution mechanism. At the end of the paper,a brief introduction of the speakers,a map of experiential phonetics and the table of dialect pronunciation in Zhongwei is appended. This paper makes an in-depth study of the pronunciation of Zhongwei dialect from multiple perspectives, and systematically describes the general appearance of the current pronunciation of Zhongwei dialect, uses Arc GIS to draw the phonetic feature map of Zhongwei dialect under the guidance of geographical linguistics and experimental phonetics theory, and explains the causes of its geographical distribution features.Praat is used to make an in-depth analysis of the phonological simplification of Zhongwei dialect and probes into its simplification mechanism.
