The thesis is based on collected Wa language material from 14 villages in Xuelin of Lancang County in Pu’re,Yunnan Province.It takes three of these villages as representatives,according to their phonetic characteristics,to analyze the phonetics systems of Wa in the region,so as to discuss the similarities and differences of initial consonants,ending consonants,vowels and minor syllables of Wa language in these villages,and all the differences are presented in form of linguistic maps.It consists of the introduction,four chapters and the conclusion.The introduction mainly introduces the purpose of the research,object and significance of this research,research methods,source of the language material and the choices of the research spots,basic geographical and cultural knowledge about Xuelin,the notes about the minor syllables,related research review of geography linguists in China and the studies related to Wa.The first chapter analyzes the phonetic systems of Wa dialects in Nanpan,Boshao and Mangdeng based on collected language material.The second chapter describes the similarities and differences of the initial consonants of Wa of the villages by systematically analyzing the initial consonants,and then draw linguistic maps to well present how initial consonants are different in the same words.The third chapter describes similarities and differences of vowels,and then present the differences of the vowels in the same words by drawing the linguistic maps.The fourth chapter focuses on similarities and differences of minor syllables of Wa of the villages and,also present their differences by drawing linguistic maps of the same words.The conclusion summarize the viewpoints of the thesis,and points out the difficulties encountered when writing the thesis.And then it concludes the shortcomings and anticipates the further researches that can be done to make full and better use of the materials.
