Calligraphy is one of the most representative of Chinese culture.Hegel once said: "Chinese calligraphy most vividly reflects the spirit of Chinese culture." It is of great significance to spread Chinese calligraphy art to foreign students. However, both domestic and foreign calligraphy teaching lags behind in the current research state, and calligraphy teaching and communication research in the cross-cultural perspective has great prospects. The study of calligraphy teaching in the cross-cultural perspective provides a theoretical basis for reference for the teaching of Chinese characters and cultural communication. This paper mainly focuses on the three dimensions of overseas teaching and communication of calligraphy, namely techniques,Chinese characters and culture,multi-angle understanding, unilateral entry,to find a shortcut to help foreigners understand and learn calligraphy, aiming at the lack of appropriate teaching materials in the process of cross-cultural teaching and communication of Chinese calligraphy, the lack of effective mode in teaching methods, etc. This paper summarizes and reflects on the current calligraphy teaching from the perspective of cross-cultural communication, puts forward ideas and suggestions on calligraphy teaching from the perspective of cross-cultural communication, and believes that the cross-cultural communication of calligraphy needs to start from visual form, make use of visual symbols,a form easily accepted by countries with low context culture, focus on techniques teaching, and integrate into Chinese culture and characters.Promote the development of cross-cultural teaching and communication of calligraphy. The overseas teaching of calligraphy should avoid two extremes: one is too simple, making calligraphy become a tool and appendage for foreigners to learn Chinese characters, turning calligraphy into a simple writing course and losing its essential content;the other is skipping basic techniques,over-emphasizing the empty theory and ideological depth of character reading, emotional expression and cultural connotation, which are divorced from the basic skills of writing. In order to effectively solve these problems in the process of cross-cultural teaching and communication of calligraphy, the author puts forward some targeted strategies,so as to better promote the cross-cultural teaching of calligraphy and make calligraphy better spread internationally. This paper is divided into five chapters:The first chapter is mainly about the origin of the research, explaining the reason of the topic and the previous research results. The second chapter is the significance of calligraphy teaching in the overseas dissemination of Chinese culture.Overseas teaching of calligraphy consists of three aspects: culture, techniques and Chinese characters. It is not a single teaching or auxiliary tool.Calligraphy is an important part of Chinese culture and a comprehensive one. From these three aspects to carry on the calligraphy teaching multi-side,all-round exploration. The third chapter mainly analyzes the research status and acceptance difference of calligraphy cross-cultural teaching and communication. This chapter is the focus of this paper.Cite Space software is used to process and analyze the literature data related to the cross-cultural teaching and communication of calligraphy, and make a visual analysis of the current research status, research hotspot and development trend,so that we can understand the theoretical results of the research on the cross-cultural teaching and communication of calligraphy from multiple perspectives and sides,in order to promote the international communication of calligraphy at a deeper level. This paper uses Edward Hall’s theory of high and low context to reflect on the differences in the acceptance of calligraphy teaching,in an attempt to break through the cultural barrier between high and low context, and find a breakthrough for the spread of calligraphy art in countries with low context culture. In addition, interviews and surveys are used to obtain first-hand information and data for analysis, and shortcomings in calligraphy teaching and communication in Confucius Institutes are analyzed.Based on the above research, the main problems in the process of calligraphy cross-cultural teaching are extracted, and the main countermeasures are put forward. To explore the crosscultural teaching and communication of calligraphy. The fourth chapter about the establishment of scientific and effective calligraphy teaching mode of exploration and imagination. It includes three aspects, mainly the establishment of teaching content, teaching method and teaching model. The teaching content is mainly based on the training of basic skills of calligraphy, supplemented by the popularization of basic theoretical knowledge of calligraphy. The innovation of teaching methods makes calligraphy show a complete charm in the teaching process. The fifth chapter summarizes and looks forward to the main work and shortcomings of the thesis.
