Research And Practice Of Developing Variations In Music Creation

The developing variation was first proposed by Schoenberg.In the article "Criterions for Commenting on Musical Works",it explicitly mentions Brahms’ use of developing variation techniques,thereby closely connecting this composition technique with Brahms.In Schoenberg’s view,the developing variation technique used by Brahms in music creation is a bold innovation.At the same time,he believes that Brahms is the most representative composer in the use of the developing variation technique in music creation,which has received widespread attention and consensus in the western music theory community.Schoenberg’s suggestion has aroused the author’s interest in the study of developing variation techniques.Therefore,the topic is the research and practice of developing variation in music creation and taking Brahms’ "The Fourth Symphony" as an example to study how Brahms flexibly applies developing variation techniques in music creation.This article consists of an introduction,a conclusion,and three chapters.The introduction mainly elaborates on the reasons for choosing the topic and the current research situation of related topics.The first chapter is a background introduction to the thesis,including an introduction to Brahms,the Fourth Symphony,and the historical origin and development of the developing variations;The second chapter analyzes Brahms’ research on the use of developing variations in music creation from three aspects: the developing variations in the theme materials,the development patterns of the developing variations,and the main characteristics of the structural layout;The third chapter is the inspiration of developing variation to my creation and the practical application of developing variation.The author hopes to summarize and summarize the characteristics of Brahms’ application of developing variation techniques through the analysis of its application in music works and learn and apply them to our future creations.
