Food security decides people’s wellbeing and represents the foundation of a country. It has long been the focus of scholars’ research. This report selects the theme of food security, aiming to carry out practical research on the familiar topics,so as to achieve theoretical and practical significance. The task text is excerpted from A Cultural History of Famine: Food Security and the Environment in India and Britain by Ayesha Mukherjee,Which has 13832 words in total.Communicative Translation Theory has wide applicability to this translation text-A Cultural History of Famine: Food Security and the Environment in India and Britain,as an informational text. This report makes a translation analysis from the two perspectives of vocabulary and sentence.Lexically, the translator applies semantic extensions, annotation and conversion to some key words like culture-loaded words and terminologies;syntactically, translation methods such as shifting, division, reorganization can be used for narrowing the differences between Chinese and English sentence.Although there are only two research perspectives, the translator aims to discuss the translation methods used for the key and difficult points in detail as much as possible.Through this practical report, the translator has drawn two conclusions: firstly, from the perspective of translation theory,Communication Theory has strong theoretical guidance for information texts. When translating information texts, translators should prioritize the reading experience of the target language readers and maximize the compatibility between theory and practice,to ensure the accuracy of the translation and the achievement of communicative purpose;Secondly,at the practical level, translation is not only a process of cultural exchange, but also a process of knowledge accumulation. In this practice, the text selected by the translator involves professional and cultural connotations, with a certain degree of translation difficulty. Therefore, not only should we attach importance to conducting a large amount of practice, but also broaden our horizons.
