With the impact of COVID-19 epidemic on economy and the large number of graduates of higher education in China, college students’ job selection has become a social problem to be solved urgently.Among a large number of graduates, the job intention of vocational school students is often restricted by their poor academic background, which leads to their lack of competitive advantages in the employment when they graduate. Therefore,it is necessary to study the career decision-making process of vocational school students and how to promote their smooth employment. As one of the important factors affecting individual job selection, career decision-making self-efficacy plays an important role in individual’s job hunting.According to the Goal-setting Theory, the attitude and behavior of individuals towards future events are all driven by their target setting and planning for the future. As an important part of individual psychological time, future time perspective is an individual’s expectation and construction of the future. As a stable personality trait, future time perspective has important guiding influence for individual’s subjective perception and realistic behaviors. Therefore, this study explores and discusses the relationship between vocational school students’ future time perspective and career decision-making self-efficacy,and introduces two mediating variables, coping style and learning engagement based on the analysis of previous studies, and explores the chain mediating role between future time perspective and career decision-making self-efficacy.In this study,1028 full-time vocational school students were selected as research subjects, and relevant data were collected by questionnaire survey.Finally,908 valid questionnaires were collected, and SPSS 21.0 and PROCESS plug-in were used to sort out and analyze the data.Descriptive statistics,T-test,correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis and path analysis were used to verify the relationship between vocational school students’ future time perspective and career decision-making self-efficacy,and analyze the mediating role of coping style and learning engagement. The research conclusions are as follows:(1)In terms of demographic variables, there is a significant difference in the future time perspective and career decision-making self-efficacy of vocational school students in terms of family origin. There are significant differences in the negative coping style of vocational school students in terms of gender and major category. There is a significant difference in learning engagement of vocational school students in terms of gender.(2)Vocational school students’ future time perspective significantly positively influences their career decision-making self-efficacy.(3)Vocational school students’ future time perspective significantly positively influences their positive coping style.(4)Vocational school students’ positive coping style has a significant positive impact on their learning engagement.(5)Vocational school students’ learning engagement has a significant positive impact on their career decision-making self-efficacy.(6)Positive coping style and learning engagement play a chain mediating role between vocational school students’ future time perspective and career decision self-efficacy,that is,vocational school students with better future time perspective will adopt more positive coping style, have higher level of learning engagement, and ultimately have better career decision-making self-efficacy.The above results indicate that the future time perspective of vocational school students can prompt them to adopt positive coping style, thus improving their learning engagement and finally their career decision-making self-efficacy.Based on the above conclusions, this study puts forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions from the perspective of how to intervene vocational school students’ future time perspective, coping style and learning engagement,so as to improve their career decision-making self-efficacy and promote the smooth employment of vocational school students. |
