| In the process of the transition from Liang-Han Jing-Xue to Wei-Jin Xuan-Xue,the discovery of the connotations of The Analysis between Speech and Spirit played an important role in the transformation of the academic style.In short,from the textual interpretation of scripture to the subjective understanding of metaphysics,the focus of the discourse of meaning shifted towards the field of understanding.In this shift,the problems posed by the discourse of the meaning of words itself were given a metaphysical solution,a solution that is particularly evident in Wang Bi’s thought.Therefore,in view of the metaphysical nature of subjective knowledge,the Generalized Epistemology approach proposed by Feng Qi is a good way to explore the understanding and application of The Analysis between Speech and Spirit in Wang Bi’s metaphysical system,and to respond to the fundamental question of The Analysis between Speech and Spirit,and to uncover the basis of what is possible from the classical texts to the meaning of the sages.This basis is divided,under the Generalized Epistemology analysis,into three aspects: the saintly subject’s acquisition of meaning,the transmission of speech,and the general subject’s access to the saint’s spirit through the saint’s speech,based on the clarification of the above two issues.Therefore,the second chapter of this paper focuses on the concept of “Sage experiences Nothing”,identifying the connotation of “body” and expanding the sage’s body as nothing into the process of knowing from body to nothing.This understanding of “Nothing”,that is,the spirit of the sage,is transmitted in the form of a classical text.However,the transmission and writing of this spirit will encounter a tension between speech and spirit,and thus the question of how the transmission of the sage’s spirit is possible becomes a new one.The third chapter of this essay analyses the “Sage with Emotion” theory,in which the process from nature to emotion is used to mark the process of transmission from spirit to speech.The analysis of the structure of nature and emotion thus serves as the structural basis for transmission,and the mechanism of the occurrence of nature and emotion serves as the will-drive for transmission,thus coloring the classical texts with “emotion”.On the basis of the identical nature of the saints and mortals and the sentient text,a discussion of the necessity of the transmission of speech is thus developed.When the speech has been spoken,the understanding of the speech begins to be on the agenda.The final question that remains to be resolved is understanding how this particular speech is possible.The fourth chapter of this paper constructs a mechanism for retracing the passage from speech to spirit in the light of Wang Bi’s discussion of the text of “The Analysis between Speech and Spirit” and the above analysis of the process of attaining spirit and transmission of speech in the Generalized Epistemological perspective.This constructive work is embodied in the following process,which begins with an analysis of the “Spirit-Image-Speech” naming and Meaning Indicator Structure proposed in the classical texts,on the premise of clarifying the flaws of traditional epistemology.The structure of the image as a mediator is identified,and the overall process of the transition from Speech to Spirit is sorted out in the text “forgetting Speech to get Image,forgetting Image to get Spirit”,a text in which Wang Bi discussed The Analysis between Speech and Spirit.Under the Generalized epistemological examination,the concrete person is brought into view.The Analysis between Speech and Spirit in Wang Bi’s metaphysics begins with the Sage experiences Nothing and ends with the learner’s practice,a process that is accompanied by the generation and transmission of meaning,outlining the whole picture of The Analysis between Speech and Spirit. |
