A Study On Russian Octobrists

With the modernisation of Russia and the certain development of bourgeois power,the 1905 revolution rapidly intensified the contradictions in Russian society.The Russian industrial and commercial bourgeoisie,which had come to the forefront of history,resented the forces of social revolution and wanted to establish constitutionalism through moderate cooperation with the government.Unlike the radical reformist slogans of the Constitutional Democrats,the October Party took a gradual and stable approach to reform,maintaining its loyalty to the Tsarist dictatorship throughout its political life,with the ultimate aim of creating a strong and free ’Russia’.Conflicts with the government’s constitutional philosophy and an overestimation of Tsar Nicholas II’s willingness to reform led the October Party to its doom.This article examines the political ideas of the October Party in the Third State Duma and their impact on the process of political modernisation in Russia,by looking at the history of the Party,its early political activities and the changes in its programme.The paper consists of an introduction,a body and a conclusion,of which chapters 2,3,4 and 5 form the main part of the thesis.The first chapter is the introduction,which mainly introduces the research object,the basis for selecting the topic,the research method,the ideas and the innovation and shortcomings of this paper.Chapter 2,The Founding of the October Party.This chapter focuses on the background and history of the creation of the October Party.The background is the call for reform by the local self-governance congress minority and the big industrialists and businessmen in 1905;the history of its creation includes the introduction of the leaders of the October Party,the official emergence of the October Party and the convening of its first national congress.Chapter 3,The early activities of the October Party.This chapter outlines the main activities of the October Party from February 1906 to June 1907: the struggle and alliance between the October Party and the Constitutional Democratic Party in the First and Second Duma,the contacts between the October Party and Prime Minister Stolypin,the split in the October Party leadership and the victory of the October Party in the Third Duma.Chapter 4,October’s ideas in the Third and Fourth Dumas,especially during the period of Stolypin’s rule-the most active period of October’s activity.This chapter presents the ideas of the October Party in three main areas: defence and foreign affairs,politics and the economy.Chapter 5: The split and demise of the October Party.This chapter analyses the process by which the October Party split and eventually disappeared from the stage of history,and its impact on the modernisation of Russian politics.Conclusion,which summarises the text.
