Research On October (1978-2018)

As the first large-scale literary journal in China in the new era,the "four famous scholars" in literary journals,and domestic literary journals that have won the first,second and third National Journal awards in succession,October occupies an important position in the history of Chinese literary journals and the development history of contemporary literature,undertakes important responsibilities,and also obtains important research value.At present,the research on literary journals is in the ascendant,but most of them are a "large and comprehensive" overall view,lacking solid and detailed case studies.As an important literary journal in the new era,October is an important witness to the literature of the 40 years of reform and opening up.This paper takes October as a case to carefully sort out and investigate,hoping to adjust some paradigm deviations in the study of literary journals,and at the same time confirm,supplement and even correct some established statements in the history of literature,so as to present an objective,true and rich literary history of the 40 years of reform and opening up from a journal profile.This paper mainly summarizes the development process of October in the past 40 years.In addition to the introduction and conclusion,the full text is divided into seven chapters.The first four chapters are the first part,which focuses on combing the historical process and development context of October,not only investigating the development and evolution of its own preferences and styles from the vertical,but also discussing the interactive relationship between October and literary trends in different periods from the horizontal.The first chapter discusses the founding of October and the establishment of the realistic position.It starts with the analysis of the founding background and number of October and the characteristics of October in the period of "literature and art books" and "literature and art series",so as to clarify the origin of October and its important position as the first large-scale literary journal in the new era.Secondly,it discusses the realistic publishing position of October.October has not clearly indicated its own publishing position from beginning to end,but as an important town of realistic literature,its realistic principled position is obvious,and has formed its own unique style and personality in the long process of development,thus distinguishing itself from other literary journals that also pursue realism.From the second chapter to the fourth chapter,this paper describes the development process of October in the past 40 years according to the time context,discusses the publication status of October in different periods and the interactive relationship with literary history,and tries to restore the historical context and ups and downs of October in the past 40 years.In order to facilitate the discussion,some chapters draw on some proper terms and context in the history of literature,but the review process is not subject to the established framework of the history of literature.They try to grasp the most valuable content of October in different historical periods,and show the complex relationship between October and the development track of the history of literature from reality.The next three chapters focus on the media attributes of the journal,focusing on the strategy of running October as a literary journal.The fifth chapter mainly discusses the editorial style of October.Editors are an important force of literary journals.They are the organizers,practitioners and principals of literasry journals.Their editorial ideas and interests have a profound impact on the style of journals.October has formed three generations of editors with their own characteristics in the course of running the journal for 40 years.They not only have the commonness of editing ideas,but also have their own interests and preferences.The hard-working and persistent practice of several generations of editors has jointly contributed to the good pattern of continuous expansion and innovation of the style of October on a stable basis.This chapter focuses on the specific analysis.The sixth chapter discusses the writers’ team of October,involving several issues such as the geographical layout and geographical preference of the writers,the building of the core writers’ team and the training of young writers.It attempts to prove the aesthetic style of October and an inclusive magnanimity by summarizing the diversity and integrity of October in the writers’ team.The last chapter discusses the communication strategy of October.Communication is an important link throughout the whole process of running a literary journal,and plays an important role in the survival and development of the journal.This chapter attempts to investigate the characteristics of October as a periodical medium from several important aspects,such as literary awards,literary seminars and rich cross media interaction,In Chapter 7,we will summarize and comment on how October has mobilized a variety of communication means to promote the excellent works of the periodical platform,and how to continuously enhance and expand the influence and communication chain of the journal in the industry,so as to form a solid communication force and gain communication advantages.Taking October as a typical example,this paper examines the contribution and experience of October in the 40 years of reform and opening up by combing its history,position,editorial style,author team,communication strategy and other related issues,so as to open a window to understand literature from the perspective of large-scale literary journals.This paper holds that October,together with other excellent literary journals,has closely participated in the construction of literature in the 40 years of reform and opening up.It is an important position to show serious literature.It bears an important task in reflecting the face of the times,leading the literary fashion and readers’ reading interests,and naturally becomes an important force to promote the development of Chinese literature.At present,the academic circles have gradually reached a consensus on the important value and significance of literary journals,and the relevant case studies have also been carried out in a solid and orderly manner.This paper has carried out the relevant research on October under this background,which has many shortcomings.However,it is still hoped that the relevant discussion of this paper can provide a new way to examine the literary research in the 40 years of reform and opening up,At the same time,it also provides some reference for the latecomers in the methods and approaches of journal case studies.
