| During the 19 th China-ASEAN Expo, the 2022 China-ASEAN Expo Tourism Exhibition was held in Guilin,Guangxi on September 19,2022,with the theme of“Sharing New Opportunities of RCEP,Jointly Build a New Pattern of Cultural and Tourism Development”.The author was given the opportunity to participate in this exhibition and worked as the designated interpreter for Mr.Zaw Lin Ko,a diplomat from the Myanmar Embassy in China, during his entire stay in Guilin. This paper selected the consecutive interpreting for the meetings with Mr.Zhang Weimin, the director of the Myanmar National Pavilion in Yangshuo, for discussion and analysis. In studies before the 1970 s,the role of interpreters was often marginalized. However, with the emergence of the culture translation perspective, attention has been drawn to the important role of interpreters as mediators between two cultures. And the interpreter’s influence on the process and result of intercultural communication through the exercise of subjectivity began to receive attention. However, the interpreter’s subjectivity should not be arbitrary, instead it should be exercised under the relevant ethical regulations. This paper, based on this interpretation practice and guided by the Chesterman’s translation ethics, selects typical cases from four perspectives,i.e.,ethics of representation, ethics of service, ethics of communication, and norm-based ethics, and explored how the interpreter’s subjectivity is performed and how it affects the results in the actual interpretation process. It further analyzed the problems and advantages that arose in the author’s exercise of interpreter’s subjectivity, and draws conclusions for her future practice to help improve the quality of interpretation. At the same time,it will provide reference for learners of interpretation. |
