Medicine is a kind of science aiming at treating and preventing diseases and improving human health, and its research fields include basic medicine, clinical medicine, preventive medicine and health care medicine. In recent years, international medical exchanges have become more and more frequent. In order to keep abreast of the latest international medical trends, promote domestic medical development and learn from international advanced medical technology and experience, the translation of medical scientific and technical texts is particularly important.Andrew Chesterman,a Finnish scholar, first explored the concept of translation ethics in Memes of Translation:The Spread of Ideas in Translation Theory in 1997 and elaborated on the basic scope of translation ethics. In 2001,Chesterman refined his translation ethics model, forming the existing five models of ethics of representation, ethics of service, ethics of communication,norm-based ethics and ethics of commitment,Chesterman’s translation ethics model aims at guiding and regulating translation activities from both micro and macro perspectives, and regulating the professional ethics and professional morality of translators, thus the translation model is of great significance to the translation practice of medical scientific and technical texts. The present translation practice report adopts Chesterman’s five models of translation ethics, based on the English medical book High Blood Pressure The At Your Fingertips Guide, from which about 15,000 words are selected for translation study. The report mainly covers the following three aspects:firstly,it introduces the requirem ents, significance and translation process of the translation task;secondly,it elaborates the current situation and elements of domestic and international research on Chesterman’s translation ethics model, and explains the connotation of the five translation ethics models in detail;finally, based on the five translation ethics models,it analyzes and studies the problems arising in the translated text through concrete examples, and proposes corresponding solutions to the relevant problems. The study shows that Chesterman’s translation ethics can provide effective guidance for the translation of medical and scientific texts. In the process of translation, translators can explore appropriate translation strategies based on these five translation ethics models and pursue appropriate translation results in order to fully improve the quality of the translated texts.
