As one of many sculptural materials,wood gives the sculpture a sense of warmth and is full of unique meaning.Different styles of woodcarvings from all over the world have formed a rich appearance of woodcarving works.It contains regional cultural history,geographical factors and personal choices of artists.In the context of contemporary Chinese woodcarving creation,it presents a commercial tendency.Among the new trends in the development of Western woodcarving,it is more artistic and innovative,among which the woodcarving works of Italian woodcarving artist Bruno Walport are very representative.Bruno combines traditional Western realistic character woodcarving with contemporary art to form a new formal language and value concept of woodcarving.Bruno’s woodcarving mainly records the unobservable spiritual emotions of contemporary young people.Bruno uses exquisite wood carving techniques and unique art forms to show sincere emotions,which moves the audience.This paper starts with the historical origin of Bruno’s woodcarving art and European traditional sculpture,and shows the contextual clues that formed his unique style according to Bruno’s experience of learning woodcarving.Then it expounds the overall creative method of Bruno’s woodcarving,showing the external formal characteristics and the technical characteristics summed up according to his woodcarving.The third part discusses the inner concept of Bruno’s woodcarving.From the body language used by Bruno,the silent quality and the painterly performance of Bruno’s woodcarving works,it narrates how Bruno organically combines the localized woodcarving craftsmanship with contemporaneity.Bruno woodcarving has a revelation effect on the author’s sculpture creation,not only from the expression of formal language but also the spirit of artistic creation,Bruno Walpot’s sincerity brought by traditional woodcarving has an extremely important reference for our artistic creation today significance.
