| Portuguese artist Paula Rego is considered to be a pioneer of feminist art in the 1960 s.The dramatic presentation of Paula Rego’s work comes from individual experience,and the dramatic life experiences have created a more delicate perception of Paula Rego.Therefore,an understanding of her life and learning experiences can serve as an important reference point for the analysis of her work.In addition,her father’s liberal belief in the right to independence and her mother’s understanding of art laid the foundation for her later ability to become a free international artist.Paula Gray’s work is rich in storytelling,and the stories are rich in genre.At the same time,the connotations of these stories convey different meanings with different interpretations.This permanent uncertainty present in Paula Rego’s work is the only certainty.Paola Rego’s works often take old story forms to form new story content and incorporate these fantasies,dreams,desires and fears into these new stories in a visual form.The work’s subversion of traditional subject matter,through the depiction of characters in scenes,the bold innovation in the content of the painting in terms of subject matter and formal composition,and the contrast of light and darkness in the images enhances the sense of immersion,giving her work a dramatic quality.Paula Rego’s artworks have a tragic atmosphere.The "beautiful grotesque" stories conveyed in his works are weakened by wit and humor,with a touch of irony.The uniqueness of Paola Rego’s work can be seen through three central lines: first,the reworking and retelling of literary narratives and poetry;second,references to other painters,including Velázquez,Goya,Manet,Degas,etc.;and third,the construction of dramatic stages and the use of live models in his compositions.This paper analyzes the evolution of dramatization in Paola Rego’s painting language by sorting out the different experiences of each period of Paola Rego.It also explores the logic of dramatization in Paola Rego’s painting by analyzing representative works of each period.The focus of this paper is on the dramatic presentation of Paola Rego’s works in the formative neo-figurative period,and the interpretation of the expressions and aesthetic reflections in the works.Paola Rego’s art is a "human comedy" in which she puts her emotions into her works and shows her concern for humanity and her reflection on life through her unique expressions.The dramatic presentation in paularego’s paintings provides a new way of thinking and content for the return of easel painting.The author has been guided to broaden the thinking and creative space through a review of Paula Rego’s paintings. |
