| This thesis takes the famous British painter Paula Rego as the starting point to analyze the narrative expression of female artists. After learning about Paula Rego’s personal growth experience,it was clear that the change of painting style was related to the surrounding growth environment.Because of the turbulent situation in Portugal at that time, women were often persecuted,Paula Rego realized the unequal status of women and men when she was a girl, and the tragic images she heard and saw provided an emotional basis for her to become a feminist painter in the future. The so-called narration is to tell stories through pictures. The study of the artist’s narrative expression is to study what kind of narrative language the artist uses to shape what kind of narrative object, and what narrative features he highlights. The narrative object is the core of a painting and the artist’s highly condensed spiritual body. This paper analyzes the examples from the spatial layout, symbolic meaning and political purpose to explore the deep meaning of the narrative object in Paula Rego’s painting.Visualization and image re-creation are the most commonly used narrative language of Paula Rego. They focus their inner fear and anxiety on one face and give it new meaning again. Her paintings not only have an alternative perspective of material selection, but also incorporate the delicate thinking of female artists, and also include strong emotional expression. As a feminist artist,Paula Rego not only inherited and developed the easel painting, but also subverted the conventional aesthetic concepts. Her painting ideas have a lot to think about, and her paintings also provide some inspiration for contemporary art.In view of the lack of research on her in China,I would like to take this paper as a supplement to the domestic research on Paula Rego. |
