The writing ideas of this paper are influenced by Mr.Hu Xiaoshi’s academic research thoughts. He said,"People who study literature or art history should not be limited to this single field, but should focus on the whole culture." Therefore, the author’s research on calligraphy education in the Republic of China is not limited to the field of calligraphy, but focuses on its historical background, social trend of thought and other broader fields.Based on this thinking,it is more difficult to understand how the ideology of the Republic of China was really implemented into the practice of calligraphy education when Shu Xue was just founded.Of course, the traditional context of calligraphy has also begun to change due to the changes in writing, which is the consensus of the academic community. But the process between cause and effect has not been described. This paper will take it as a lead, through the sorting and analysis of Shu Xue and related materials, from several aspects:The first chapter describes the appearance of Shu Xue and the background of calligraphy education in the Republic of China. In the 1930 s,faced with the national situation of internal and external invasion, both political and academic circles hoped that education could make the country strong. Therefore, calligraphy as a unique art of our country,it was revived at this time. The society organization of "Chinese Book Society" and the magazine of "Shu Xue" also appeared at that time, and assumed the great responsibility of saving the country. This shows that calligraphy education began to establish a connection with the country. The second to the fourth part is the key of this paper, through the analysis of the influence of social trends of thought on education, and then in-depth study of the ways of calligraphy education in the Republic of China,to understand the trend of calligraphy education in the Republic of China, thus extending the contribution of Shu Xue to calligraphy education.Specifically,in the second part, the premise of "powerful country in education" is that education should have a purpose, coupled with the influence of nationalism, calligraphy education began to penetrate into the spirit of "Three People’s Principles",and different teaching contents and training plans were set up according to the different educational goals. In the third part, under the influence of Dewey’s pragmatism in education,in order to achieve the optimization and speed of teaching results, calligraphy education began to formulate practical and basic plans according to the needs of reality,so that more people can possess basic writing skills. The fourth part, under the influence of scientism, education began to improve teaching practice based on scientific technology or experimental tools, and was committed to seeking effective and accurate teaching methods in practical experience. In a sense, the pursuit of education under pragmatism and scientism has something in common.Through the above discussion,it can be seen that calligraphy education in the Republic of China is no longer chaotic, vague and empirical, but begins to be standardized, orderly, and scientific. It can be said that Shu Xue gave birth to the prototype of the modern calligraphy education system. However, due to the limitations of the times, calligraphy education at that time made some progress in teaching methods, but the content and goals showed a politicized tendency. This paper hopes that this research can not only provide a contextual clue for the development of calligraphy publications, but also provide a reference for the current research on calligraphy education,so that later researchers can avoid the disadvantages brought by history and making better progress in calligraphy education. |
