This E-C translation material is selected from Breaking the Age Code,an informative text published in April 2022,which was written by Becca Levy. The book comprises ten chapters and mainly introduces a series of effects of age beliefs on people’s behavior, physiology and psychology. The first two chapters are selected by the translator as the translation material. The source text is an informative text and the main purpose is to convey information to readers in an objective and accurate way.Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory emphasizes the importance of conveying information in a way that aligns with the target language’s linguistic, cultural, and pragmatic norms. In order to ensure the readability of the target text to the maximum extent, this translation practice report selects Communicative Translation Theory as the guiding theory for providing the target readers with the same reading experience as the readers of the source text.In the process of translation, the translator finds that the source text contains numerous postpositive attributives. One of the typical linguistic features of English is postpositive attributive, but it is rarely seen in modern Chinese.Since English and Chinese differ in their forms and expression habits, the translator confronts quite a few difficulties in translating postpositive attributives. Therefore, the translator chooses the translation of postpositive attributives as the research focus.Under the guidance of Communicative Translation Theory, the translator adopts appropriate translation techniques to translate different types of postpositive attributives. When translating prepositional phrases, the translator uses inversion and division. While translating non-finite verb phrases, inversion and conversion are adopted.Inversion, combination and repetition are employed to translate attributive clauses. These translation techniques are conducive to achieving the fluency and readability of the target text.Furthermore, this report is expected to provide some insightful suggestions for the translation of postpositive attributives in the informative text.
