| Foundations of Health written by Eric Goodman was selected as the translation material in the translation practice report.As an informative text,this book focuses on the concept of the endogenous cannabinoid system.Informative text is an important way for people to understand relevant information of various fields.Translators are required to convey real and accurate information of source text objectively.This text contains a lot of postpositive attributives,which are essential for the readers to understand the original text.Therefore,the translator mainly focuses on the translation of postpositive attributives.This report illustrates the feasibility of the translation strategies by enumerating the examples of Chinese translation of English sentences containing postpositive attributives in the text.With Structural-shifts and Unit-shifts of Catford’s Translation Shifts Theory,the author concludes four strategies of the Chinese translation of English postpositive attributives in informative texts: reversion(the reversion of prepositional phrases and the reversion of attributive clauses),conversion(the conversion of adjective phrases into verbs,the conversion of non-predicate verb phrases into verbs),division(translating restrictive attributive clauses into clauses,translating non-restrictive attributive clauses into sentences)and synthesis(combining conversion and division,combining inversion with division).With the above four methods,the translator breaks away from the the original framework of English distinguishes the real semantic function from the grammatical structure,so as to achieve translation texts which conforms to the Chinese expression habits,and ensure that the translation can accurately convey the original information.Based on previous studies,this report explores how to choose proper strategies to translate the postpositive attributives in informative texts,and how to overcome the differences between Chinese and English languages to achieve more fluent and natural translation texts.At the same time,it is hoped that this report can provide certain reference for the translation of postpositive attributives in informative texts in the future. |
