This report is based on an on-site interpreting task in Jinhua Museum. The source discourse is about museum commentary, which is characterized by intensive information,culture-loaded words, and terminologies.Effort Model proposed by Daniel Gile serves as the guiding theory to the interpreting task. This report analyzes what methods the interpreter could take in interpreting to lower the need for processing capacity. There are five chapters in this report. The first chapter is task description, including task background, features of the source discourse, and entruster’s requirements. The second chapter presents the interpreting process, which covers preparations,on-site interpreting, feedback of the entruster and self-evaluation.The third chapter introduces Daniel Gile and Effort Model proposed by him, followed by its application in interpreting. The fourth chapter concerns case analysis, which is illustrated in four aspects: listening and analysis,note-taking,memory,and production. In listening to and analyzing the source discourse, speculating semantic information and analyzing main information are applied to deal with long and complex sentences;in taking notes, words regarding date, number, location merit much attention;in memorizing information, association, chunks, and logic are used to strengthen short-time memory;in production, amplification, omission, and reformulation are adopted to make the target discourse readily comprehensible. The fifth part is the conclusion, which shows what the interpreter has gained from this practice. It is expected that this report can serve as a reference to the application of Effort Model in future consecutive interpreting tasks.
