| This report is based on the interpretation of the commentary of National Museum of Chinese Writing from Chinese to English for an Australian client of a foreign trade company.The client visited the museum on July 21st,2022 and the whole process lasted about 1.5hours.The interpretation was completed based on Daniel Gile’s Effort Models.The report consists of five chapters.Chapter one is task description,mainly introducing the background of the task,the linguistic and non-linguistic features of the task and the research methodology and significance of this report.The second chapter details the whole process of this interpretation including the pre-interpreting preparations,interpreting process,and post-interpretating feedback and self-reflection.Preparations include the collection of terminology,background knowledge framework build-up,and on-the-spot investigation.The interpretating process includes challenges in the process such as distractions caused by other voices and much culture-loaded information.Chapter three introduces briefly the guiding theory of this interpretating practice,Gile’s Effort Models as well as the application of the theory in this practice.Chapter four is case analysis,a key part of the report.This chapter elaborates on the interpreting strategies adopted by the author in three dimensions,namely note-taking,memory and production.These strategies include source and target language symbols at the stage of note-taking,chunks,association and visualization in memory,and omission,paraphrasing and use of passive voices at the stage of production.The author analyzes some typical examples to illustrate how the strategies are applied in the interpreting practice.Chapter five summarizes this interpretation.This practice tests the author’s one-year interpretation study and helps the foreign friend know more about Chinese culture.The author hopes that this report can provide valuable reference for similar interpreting practices. |
