Abstract/Summary:
Vocabulary teaching belongs to one of the important aspects of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. The expanded vocabulary and more types of vocabulary at the intermediate level increase the learning difficulty, which requires the teaching materials to play their role in providing learners with high-quality vocabulary practice. The taxonomy of cognitive objectives theory was proposed by Bloom in the 1950 s.Since its introduction, the theory has been widely used as a theoretical basis and practical guide for teachers to set teaching goals, carry out teaching activities, and assess the quality of practice carried out.Guided by Bloom’s taxonomy of cognitive objectives, this paper examines and analyzes the vocabulary exercises in Developing Chinese and Erya Chinese-by combining the exercise contents and cognitive processes through the method of statistical analysis. The whole paper is divided into five parts. The first chapter is the introduction, which explains the background and significance of the selected topic, the current research status of the comparison of Chinese teaching materials for foreigners and the current application of the taxonomy of cognitive objectives and determines the scope of the research and the research method of this paper. The second chapter is about the purpose, principles and layout of the exercises of the two textbooks, starting from the purpose and principles of the exercises of the two textbooks, analyzing the two textbooks comprehensively, and explaining the layout of the exercises of the two textbooks,so as to prepare for the following statistics and comparison.Chapter 3 is a comparative statistical study of the vocabulary exercises in the textbooks. In this paper, the exercises in the two textbooks are counted according to the content and form of the exercises, and then a two-dimensional framework is applied to categorize the specific topics, examine the distribution of the topics in the two-dimensional framework for comparison, and discuss the distribution of the exercises based on the teaching objectives at the intermediate level.Chapter 4 is the analysis of statistical results and writing suggestions. This chapter first analyzes the statistical results of the previous chapter in terms of the knowledge dimension and the cognitive process dimension, and analyzes the distribution of exercises and the integration of the teaching objectives at the intermediate level.Chapter 5 is the concluding part of this paper, which summarizes the research content of this paper as a whole and gives an overview of the suggestions made in the previous paper.Through the analysis, the paper finds that the vocabulary exercises of the selected textbook have the characteristics of reasonable setting of questions and rich comprehension and application exercises, while there are problems such as uneven distribution of cognitive stages, incomplete cognitive process, and uneven distribution of input and output exercises. To address these problems, this paper gives suggestions to expand the cognitive process and question types, strengthen the training of creation stage, increase the setting of output exercises, and set up exercises related to meta-cognitive knowledge. It is hoped that this paper can provide help for the development of vocabulary exercises in intermediate comprehensive teaching materials for foreigners and learners’ actual learning,as well as for teachers to use the exercises appropriately to improve learners’ Chinese language level and classroom teaching effectiveness according to learners’ characteristics in the actual teaching application.
