Warmth and affection from others is a positive interpersonal feedback signal for individuals, which can satisfy their needs for psychological belonging and good interpersonal relationship.Since praise is a form of positive interpersonal communication,it is of great practical significance to study the relationship between praise and subjective well-being.However,current studies mainly focus on the effect of praise on emotions. These studies focus more on the giver of praise(i.e.the person giving the praise),and lack consideration of the recipient of praise and its cognitive mechanism. Therefore, based on the theory of mind, this study examines a moderated mediation model including praise, perception of being liked, perception of being understood, subjective well-being and self-construct,in order to explore the influence mechanism and boundary conditions of praise on subjective well-being.This study includes two sub-studies.In the first study,256 subjects were randomly divided into the praise group and the control group. The praise group and the control group recalled and described an experience of receiving compliments or ordinary interpersonal communication, respectively. Then they filled in the perceived Liked, perceived understood and subjective well-being questionnaires. In Study 2,174 participants were sampled over a 14-day period. The participants completed the self-construct questionnaire on the registration day;For the following 14 days, the subjects filled in the experience sampling questionnaire every evening, including the measurement of whether they received compliments from others on that day,the perception of the praise situation, the perception of being liked, the perception of being understood, and the subjective well-being.The results show that:(1)Praise has a significant impact on subjective well-being,others praise can improve individual subjective well-being;(2)Compared with the perception of being liked, others’ praise promoted the individual’s subjective well-being by influencing the perception of being understood;(3)The moderating effect of self-construct is not significant.Whether dependent or independent individuals, others’ praise can improve their subjective well-being,and perception is understood to play a mediating role. This study preliminary reveals the impact of praise on individual subjective well-being and its mechanism, and further reveals the path of praise’s impact on subjective well-being from the cognitive level, which is helpful for people to understand the cognitive mechanism of praise’s impact on subjective well-being.In addition, this study helps to expand the explanatory range of the theory of mind, especially the second-order theory of mind.
