With the improvement of medical level,human life expectancy is prolonged and the aging of the population is aggravated,which has gradually attracted global attention.In order to create a healthier environment for old people,many experts in aging conduct a lot of experiments and researches.Breaking the Age Code: How Your Beliefs About Aging Determine How Long & Well You Live is the latest book by Dr.Becca Levy.It is a popular science book about medical health,which offers a new perspective for the public to decrypt the aging process,discuss the mental health of the elderly and break the inherent age discrimination to provide scientific guidance for the elderly to live a healthier later life.Based on the English-Chinese translation of Chapter 5,Chapter 7,and Chapter 9 of Breaking the Age Code,this report analyzes the translation of popular science works including informative texts and expressive texts under the guidance of Katharina Reiss’ s text typology theory.According to text typology and the translation principles of popular science texts,this report is conducted from two aspects: faithfully conveying the scientific information of the informative text and flexibly dealing with the literariness of the expressive text.This report aims at summarizing the translation strategies and principles of popular science texts,popularizing professional knowledge of mental health and the benefits of positive age beliefs for the public as well as providing references for further researches and subsequent translation.
