Color words and idioms are important learning contents in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language(TCSL)through the primary,middle and advanced learning stages,and have different characteristics in each stage.Meanwhile,the idioms of color words in Chinese and English show some differences in both semantic and cultural connotation,these differences are also the manifestations of the two cultural cognition and cultural connotation.The idioms of color words contain rich cultural connotations and meaning.However,the existing teaching materials in TCSL and relevant Chinese,English and Chinese-English translation dictionaries rarely sort out the cultural connotation behind Chinese-English color word idioms.Color words and idioms can satisfy students’ curiosity about Chinese culture behind the language.Otherwise,it can help students to learn Chinese to a higher level while understanding the cultural connotation.We hope to pay more attention to the idioms of Chinese color words and their cultural connotations in TCSL,helping students understand he cultural connotations behind the idioms of color words in Chinese better,increasing students’ vocabulary.There are four chapters in the thesis.The introduction mainly introduces the origin of the topic,the purpose and significance of the research,the research summary,the research objectand method,the innovation of the thesis.In first chapter,we explore the origin of Chinese and English color words and build their development framework.The second chapter systematically sorts out the idioms of color words in Chinese and English,deeply explore the cultural connotation and summarized the similarities and differences by comparative analysis,besides give examples.The third chapter makes statistical analysis of the current situation of color words,idioms and idioms of color words in current Chinese teaching materials in TSCL,put forward preliminary instructional design and suggestions of the compilation of textbooks,dictionaries(study books)compilation and teaching methods according to the quantity and distribution.The forth chapter design preliminary teaching plan.
