| Translation plays a vital role in the process of cultural communication and dissemination. With the advance of globalization, the translation of world literature bridges different cultures, and promotes the understanding between different languages. It is precise because of the importance of cultural communication that the translation of literary works needs further practice and research. The third novel of the South African writer Zakes Mda,The Heart of Redness, depicts the conflict between modern development and Xhosa tradition on the African continent, and ultimately proposes a model of development,in which culture and nature are aligned to get Africa out of the dilemma. The second and third chapters of The Heart of Redness are selected as the translation text.According to Newmark’s text typology theory, the source text belongs to expressive text, including many Xhosa words. The source text does not have complex structure, but requires logical analysis and fluent expression, which brings a certain difficulty to the translator. In this report, the translator chooses Liu He’s tranlingual practice to guide her understanding and translation, analyzes the difficulties in the original text from word and sentence, and uses transliteration, addition, and segmentation techniques to provide solutions to specific translation problems. This report includes four chapters. The general information on the translation project will be introduced in chapter one.In the second chapter, the translation process will be presented, also the translingual practice theory which is adopted in the translation.Chapter three will focus on case analysis,in which wording and phrasing will be presented. The fourth chapter will conclude the findings, limitations and further improvement. |
