A Report On The E-C Translation Of Heart Failure In Clinical Practice (Chapters 5～7)

Heart failure is a disease with a high mortality rate.Medical studies have shown that in China,the number of patients with heart failure is increasing year by year.If they had a better treatment in the early period,the mortality rate could be reduced.The source text is excerpted from a medical book,Heart Failure in Clinical Practice.The main content of the book is about the clinical practice of heart failure in Europe.Therefore,the author thought that this book is worth translating.According to Newmark’s typology theory,this translation material belongs to the informative text.The most important point to handle this kind of translation is to ensure the accuracy as far as possible.If not,a terrible result will be caused.After a careful analysis of the source text,the author decided to choose Newmark’s semantic translation theory and communicative translation theory to guide this practice.The author mainly applied semantic translation theory to the word’s translation,such as terminology and polysemy.However,the communicative translation theory is applied to translate sentences in that Chinese is totally different from English in writing habits.Hence,it is inevitable for translators to adjust the structures or the word order when converting into Chinese.Only if the reader can understand the meaning,can the communicative function be realized.The author hopes this practice can be a reference for medical translation.
