A C-E Translation Report On The Past Events Of The Operatic Circle:Reminisce My Father And Mother (Excerpts):Difficulties In Aesthetic Representation Of Biography And Tactics

The source text of this translation project is excerpted from the Past Events of the Operatic Circle: Reminisce My Father and Mother,which describes the ups and downs of the writer’s parents’ life as actors of Shanghai Opera.It is a biography with dramatic characteristics.This report mainly discusses the difficulties and tactics of aesthetic representation of biography translation,and puts forward feasible translation tactics to solve the difficulties.The original text is featured by authenticity and literariness with beautiful words,vivid images,and many figures of speech which are difficult to represent aesthetic information in translation practice.Based on this,the author summarizes the main difficulties encountered in translation practice:(1)the phonetic level: representing the phonetic beauty of onomatopoeia and reduplication;(2)the lexical level: representing the concise beauty of metaphor and cultural beauty of local characteristic words;(3)the syntactic level: representing the symmetric beauty of antithesis and the logical beauty of Chinese run-on sentences.Guided by the Translation Aesthetics Theory put forward by Liu Miqing,the paper aims to solve the difficulties above.Here lists the tactics adopts in the report:(1)the phonetic level: adopting onomatopoeia to represent the phonetic beauty of onomatopoeia;Using alliteration to represent the phonetic beauty of reduplication;(2)the lexical level: adopting replacement to reproduce the concise beauty of metaphor;Using transliteration with annotation to represent the cultural beauty of local characteristic words;(3)the syntactic level: the symmetric beauty of the antithesis is reproduced by SL-oriented representation;the recasting is adopted to represent the logical beauty of Chinese running sentences.By adopting the translation tactics above,the author can represent the aesthetic characteristics of biography and solve the difficulties mentioned,which are helpful to enrich the aesthetic translation research of biography text.
