A Report On C-E Translation Of Architectural Engineering Texts Under The Guidance Of Communicative Translation Theory

With the rapid development of economic globalization and the implementation of China’s "Belt and Road” initiative,international trade cooperation has become increasingly close.In such a circumstance,the architectural engineering industry is also rising,with more and more engineering projects involved in the international stage.In this process,the translation of architectural engineering texts has become an important link to promote international engineering cooperation,which undoubtedly poses new challenges to the translators.The author selects the project of Construction Work Method Statement for Iraq Amara 4×125 MW Single-cycle to Combined Cycle Power Plant Project that she participated in during her internship as the source text of the practice report,and explores the application of communicative translation theory to C-E translation of architectural engineering texts through specific case analysis.This translation practice report mainly includes the following five parts:introduction of translation task,description of translation process,overview and application of Newmark’s communicative translation theory,case analysis and conclusion.Case analysis is the core part of this practice report,in which the author mainly analyzes the problems existing in the process of English translation of architectural engineering texts from the perspective of lexicon,syntax and discourse,and puts forward the corresponding translation methods,such as literal translation,conversion,addition,omission,restructuring,division and combination,and conversion of active and passive,which makes the translated version conform to the language habits of target text readers on the basis of the faithfulness to the source text,so as to achieve the purpose of communication.The research proves that Newmark’s communicative translation theory plays a guiding role in the Chinese-English translation of the architectural engineering texts.After completing the translation practice report,the author has not only deepened the understanding of the translation theory,but also accumulated valuable translation experience.Meanwhile,the author also hopes that this practice report can provide a certain reference value for the translation work in relevant fields.
