| This translation practice report is based on the translation task of chapter 1 of the English book Creative Teaching: English in the Early Years and Primary Classroom.First published in 2007 and written by Chris Horner and Vicki Ryf,this book includes many creative teaching ideas, teaching methods and teaching activities for children, which have an important reference significance for children’s education in China.China and foreign countries have many different educational concepts and methods for children, and they can learn from each other. Most of the foreign books about children’s education are novel,at the same time, they emphasize the combination of learning and practice and tend to infiltrate emotional education by displaying diverse cultures. When translating foreign children’s education books, the translator should take into account the acceptance of specific domestic readers. The language should be natural and smooth as much as possible. In addition, the translator should pay attention to practicality and readability of the book, which can learn the educational concepts and methods of foreign children and enrich the educational concepts and methods of domestic children. The British translation theorist Peter Newmark proposed the text type theory, which divides texts into informative texts, expressive texts and vocative texts.Among them, the informative text focuses on content rather than form, and its purpose is to convey information and characteristic is to emphasize the authenticity and accuracy of information. When translating informative texts, the translator should pay attention to the effect of information transmission and take into account the expression habits of the target readers, which can ensure that the target language readers have the same feelings with the source language readers. The communicative translation theory proposed by Newmark aims to make target language readers and source language readers have the same feelings about the text. The characteristics of the communicative translation theory are applicable to informative texts, and this translation practice report belongs to informative texts. Therefore, the communicative translation theory is used for theoretical guidance of this report.Firstly, this translation practice report analyzes the corresponding translation methods from the aspect of vocabularies, including word formation and amplification. Then it analyzes the translation from the aspect of sentences, including sequence translation method, reverse translation method and division translation method. Finally, the translation of textual cohesion is analyzed from the perspective of reference and conjunction.Under the guidance of the communicative translation theory and combing with the practical cases, this translation practice report uses the common expression habits of the target language readers to translate the text, which makes the translation smoother and easier to understand. This report falls into five chapters. The first chapter is the task introduction, including task background, task significance and main content. The second chapter is the task process, including pre-translation,in-translation and post-translation.The third chapter is the theoretical basis, including the overview and application of the communicative translation theory and its reference value to this report. The fourth chapter is the case analysis, and it mainly uses the communicative translation theory to solve the difficulties in translation by combining with specific cases and gives the corresponding translation methods. The fifth chapter is the practice summary, the translator summarizes the writing process of the translation practice report and finds out the shortcomings and the areas that need to be improved. |
