| With the continuous improvement of China’s comprehensive national power,“Chinese culture going out” as a national strategy has become an important way to strengthen cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries and shape the national image. In order to accumulate translation experience and improve translation ability, the translator selected the fourth chapter of the novel Renjian Gaobai for translation. This novel centers on the love between the author Li Jin and her husband Xiaohu, and mainly narrates how much the author misses her husband.Chapter four contains 11,710 words, and the English translation has 7,326 words. The translator translated the source text two times. The first translation of the source text was without any theoretical guidance, and the translator further improved the translation under the framework of Comprehension,Expression,Adaptation(CEA)proposed by Professor Li Changshuan and Shi Xiaojing in the book Comprehension and Expression: Comments on Chinese-English Translation Cases. This translation report uses the CEA(Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation)framework to analyze some cases in the process of translation practice. This report analyses some of the problems encountered by the author in the translation, such as the inability to find exact equivalents, the difficulty in choosing words due to multiple meanings of words or the flexibilities of words, and introduces how the translator further understood the source text and revised the translation under the guidance of the Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation framework. In terms of comprehension, the translator mainly focuses on understanding words and sentences. In terms of expression, translation is mainly analyzed from collocation, diction and consistent information. In terms of adaptation, four aspects are emphasized, including content flexibility, language simplification, change of expression and integration. At the end of the report, the translator introduces some gains and shortcomings of the translation practice and gives some suggestions. To sum up,under the guidance of the CEA framework, the translator realizes that translators should fully understand the intention of the author and translate it correctly to make the translation more acceptable to the target readers. The translator points out that when translating literary works, translators should carefully consider the focus of translation, whether the translation should highlight the beauty of literary works or the sincere feelings contained in the novels. In the novel, there are more narrative sentences than descriptive sentences,so the translator chose to focus on expressing the content of the source text. |
