As a new type of confrontation between countries,"hybrid warfare" showed its effectiveness for the first time in 2014,when Russia "recovered" Crimea without bloodshed.In February 2022,Russia launched a special military operation against Ukraine,hence the "hybrid warfare" became the focus of research at home and abroad once again.Initially proposed by Americans,concept "hybrid warfare" was fully practiced and systematically researched by the Russians,and it even symbolized the highest point in the development of Russian military ideology at the beginning of the 21 st century.At present,there are few translations of Russian books on "hybrid warfare" in China.Therefore,choosing related books as the subject of translation practice is of great significance to the study of Russian military ideology on the cutting edge and the safeguard of Chinese national security.This dissertation is a translation practice report of the teaching reference book "Hybrid Warfare"(excerpt).This book was compiled by A.A.Bartosh,a famous Russian military expert,who is correspondence academician of the Russian Academy of Military Sciences.Published by the Russian publisher "Knorus" in 2021,it’s mainly used by students of Russian universities and experts of Russian state institutions.The selected chapters mainly introduce modern conflict strategies,including strategies of attrition and annihilation,strategies and counterstrategies of hybrid warfare,strategies of information warfare,etc.This book falls under scientific style with its language being abstract,general,logical and accurate.In view of its stylistic and linguistic features,the translator selects V.N.Komisarov’s translation equivalence theory as the guiding theory to help solve translation difficulties.This report aims to analyze the translation methods of scientific style and summarize the translation practice experience so as to provide useful references for the translation of such texts in the future.The main part of the report consists of introduction,four chapters and conclusion.Literature and appendices are after the main part.The introduction introduces the background,significance,purpose and task of this translation project,structure and novelty of the report.Chapter One outlines the main contents of the original text,analyzes it from the perspective of functional rhetoric,and describes the main translation difficulties.Chapter Two describes the translation process,including pre-translation preparation,translation and post-translation related work.Chapter Three introduces the guiding theory of this translation practice — Komissarov’s translation equivalence theory and its methods in detail.Chapter Four introduces the translation methods applied in this translation practice through case analysis,including literal translation method,grammatical substitution,dividing sentences,combining sentences,repetition of pronouns,permutation,word addition and subtraction,etc.In the Conclusion,the translator summarizes the whole translation practice and points out the problems to be resolved.
