| The doctrine of“hybrid warfare”emerged in the United States, then rapidly developed and matured in Russia, and has now become a new form of the geopolitical game between countries, with a significant impact on the pattern of international relations in the 21stcentury.Russia has a rich theoretical and practical experience in the field of“hybrid warfare”,and the Crimean crisis and the Syrian operation are classic examples of the application of the hybrid warfare theory. The outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in early 2022 brought about a new form of interstate confrontation,“hybrid warfare”,back into the global spotlight. However, there are few systematic translations of Russian"hybrid warfare"theory in China. Therefore, the translation of the treatise on the topic of“hybrid warfare”will allow us to understand Russia’s theoretical development and struggle experience in this field,so that we can better implement a holistic approach to national security and effectively counter various hybrid threats facing China. This essay is a practice report on the translation of Conflict in the XXI Century:Hybrid Warfare and Color Revolutions(excerpt). It is a book on the theory of war by Alexander Bartoosh,a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Military Sciences and columnist for Military-Industrial Courier. This book was officially published in 2018 for relevant professional scholars and personnel of state institutions. The chapter selected for the practice report focuses on the transformation of modern conflicts, including the characteristics of international conflicts in the 21stcentury,changes in conflict types, and global criticality. The text carries a typical scientific style, with distinctive stylistic features such as accuracy of wording, abstraction, strict logic, and the extensive use of terminology, etc. Therefore, the translator chose S.G.Barhudarov’s translation equivalence theory to solve the specific problems in translation. The purpose of this practice report is to analyze the specific translation methods of scientific texts, summarize relevant practical experience, and make suggestions for the translation of such texts through a practical application of Barhudarov’stranslation method. The report consists of five main parts:introduction, the body with four chapters, conclusion, references and annexes. The introduction briefly introduces the background, purpose, task and practical significance of the translation project;Chapter 1 briefly introduces the content and textual characteristics of the source text;Chapter 2 describes the translation process, introducing the theoretical and practical preparations before translation, and the specific work done during and after translation;Chapter 3 shows the specific application of Barhudarov’s translation equivalence theory in the translation practice;Chapter 4 provides reflections on the translation practice, including problems encountered in translation and solutions, etc.;the concluding remarks summarize the whole translation practice process and put forward useful suggestions. |
