With the vigorous development of China’s “Belt and Road” initiative,China’s cultural exchanges with countries along the “Belt and Road” are more frequent than ever before, and more and more foreign officials are coming to China for further studies. It is the responsibility of interpreters to faithfully pass the content of the lectures to foreign officials,to ensure that they can benefit from the seminars. The theoretical basis of this paper is the Effort Model Theory proposed by Professor Gile in 1995.Gile’s Effort Model Theory mainly describes the distribution of attention of interpreters in translation activities. He points out that interpretation is a very complex activity that requires interpreters to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. The total amount of attention require for the interpretation task must be fewer than the total amount of attention that the interpreter’s brain can provide, which must be kept throughout the entire interpretation activities. The material of this paper comes from the interpretation work of the "2019 Afghan Hardware Processing and Import and Export Trade Seminar" in which the interpreter participated in from August to September during 2019.This paper uses a lecture as an example of studying consecutive interpretation. The theme is "The Business Empire of Fujian Merchants ".Based on the theory of Gile’s Effort Model Theory, the interpreter evaluates the quality of interpretation from three perspectives: listening,short-term memory, and language production. The interpreter concludes that it is necessary to improve the interpreter’s interpretation level by improving bilingual language skills, strengthening theory learning, improving interpretation training models and cherishing interpreting opportunities. The interpreter aims to come up with new ideas for others studying consecutive interpretation and Gile’s Effort Model Theory.
