Johann Nepomuk Hummel(1778~1837)was a Viennese classical composer and the most outstanding pianist in Europe, known as the "modern Mozart." During his life,he created many excellent works, among which the 11 piano sonatas he made are the precious heritage in the world of piano art history, reflecting the classical music style, and they have always played an essential role in the history of Western music. The Piano Sonata No.1 in C Major(Op.2No.3)was composed in April 1792,combining classical and romantic techniques. Each of the three movements has its style, with contrasting short sentences, varied themes, and a mixture of hardness and softness.Starting from Hummel’s biography and creation process, this paper analyzes the creation background and performance skills of the works and finally analyzes its application in the teaching process. It is hoped that through in-depth exploration of this work, the understanding of the musical content of the work can be deepened, and it can be more accurately applied in the teaching practice with the help of my major so that the performer can interpret the work more accurately when performing. The thesis is divided into three chapters: the first chapter introduces Hummel’s life and the creation background of Piano Sonata No.1 in C Major(Op.2No.3).The second chapter analyzes Piano Sonata No.1 in C Major(Op.2No.3)from the perspective of musical structure and style characteristics. The third chapter focuses on the performance and teaching research on the change of rhythm and speed, the application of playing skills, the change of intensity level, and the application of pedals.
