A Study On The Description Of Festivals In Popular Novels Of Ming And Qing Dynastie

This paper takes the festival description of popular novels in Ming and Qing Dynasties as the research object,and intends to study its folk history value and literary expression function.In the popular novels of Ming and Qing dynasties,a large number of festival descriptions run through them,enriching the content of the novel and making the plot of the novel more substantial.Firstly,this paper starts with the folk value,and explores its folk history value from three aspects: people’s psychology,entertainment color and Buddhist culture.At the same time,the festival description plot has an extremely important literary expression function,which plays an indispensable role in structuring the plot,showing the changes of characters’ characteristics and relationships,and setting off the theme.The text is divided into four chapters,the main contents are as follows.The first chapter is the research on the value of folk history in the description of festivals in popular novels of Ming and Qing Dynasties,mainly from three aspects: the psychology of festivals,the color of festivals’ entertainment and the Buddhist culture of festivals,so as to present colorful pictures of folk history.The second chapter studies the plot construction function of festival description,which is divided into two parts:controlling narrative rhythm and becoming the narrative framework of the novel.Festival’s control of narrative rhythm is reflected in promoting plot development with festival contradictions and conflicts;Describe the delay of the story in terms of festivals.The same festival appears repeatedly in the same work,connecting the main plot of the novel,and becoming the skeleton of the novel.The third chapter is a study on the characterization function of holiday description,starting from three angles: highlighting the fate of characters,revealing the psychological and personality characteristics of characters,and showing the changes in the relationship between characters.The fourth chapter is the study of the theme deepening function of festival description,which is analyzed and discussed from the perspective of highlighting the theme of a single festival and repeatedly rendering multiple festivals.
